In memory of Dad.

This site is a tribute to our wonderful Dad, Geoffrey Meir. We would very much welcome your tributes, and any fond memories you have of Dad that you would like to share here amongst his family and friends.

Dad was truly one of a kind, the best father one could ever hope to have, and indeed the best grandfather too. Kind and caring, hard working and with a mischievous sense of humour. He would always go out of his way to help people, and nothing was ever too much trouble. He was an avid reader, with a love of rugby and steam trains, and a wanderlust and appetite for exploring that never left him. These interests run deep in those of us that remain, and we will continue to pursue them as if he was here beside us.

Sadly, the last 4 years was a struggle. Myeloma inflicted chaos on Dad's formerly strong and active body. It caused him much pain, and in turn, great frustration as it prevented him from doing so many of the things that he loved. Life was never the same again, but Dad carried on with a smile on his face, and continued to do what he could to put a smile on the face of other people. He became a frequent sight around Yelverton, hobbling around on his crutches, with Mum on his arm. He found pleasure in the simple things in life and gained much joy this year from his garden, growing sweet peas, runner beans and a really beautiful array of vibrant coloured dahlias. This was an astounding achievement given his ever shrinking frame, and a true testament to the incredible character that Dad was. In the words of our Auntie Jennie "There will never be a better man."

Dad was an enthusiastic and committed member of the Dartmoor Rescue Group in the 1980s, and remained a staunch supporter of the very important service that they provide. If you would like to make a donation in Dad's memory that would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
